Former Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque has been shown arrested in two separate murder cases related to the July mass uprising. One case was filed at Jatrabari Police Station and the other at Adabar Police Station in the capital. Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam passed the orders on Monday, March 30, following separate applications by police.

State counsel Shamsuddoha Sumon said Khairul Haque was brought to the court lock-up at 9:30 am. He was produced before the court two hours later. The court heard the applications submitted by the investigating officers seeking to show him arrested in the murder cases from Jatrabari and Adabar police stations. After the hearing, the court granted both applications.

In his application, Jatrabari Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Mahmudul Hasan said on the afternoon of July 19, 2024, leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated organisations indiscriminately opened fire on students and the public on the Bou Bazar Road in North Kutubkhali, Jatrabari. Md Arif, 17, a student of Lord Hardinge Senior Fazil Madrasa, was shot. He was declared dead upon arrival at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. A murder case was filed at Jatrabari Police Station on August 26, 2024, over the incident. Evidence has been found regarding Khairul Haque's direct or indirect involvement in the case, necessitating him being shown arrested.

Meanwhile, Adabar Police Station Sub-Inspector Mohammad Tipu Sultan stated in his application that on August 5, 2024, garment worker Md Rubel, 18, was participating in a student-public procession in the Adabar area when the accused opened indiscriminate fire, injuring him. Rubel died on August 7 while undergoing treatment.

Nearly a year after the fall of the Awami League government in the July mass uprising, police arrested Khairul Haque from his residence in Dhanmondi on July 24, 2025. He has since been shown arrested in multiple cases related to killings during the July uprising and remains in jail.
