Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury sworn in as new chief justice

Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury has taken oath as the 26th Chief Justice of Bangladesh.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at Bangabhaban on Sunday (December 28) at 10:36am, where President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath.

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and outgoing 25th Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed were present at the ceremony.

Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury brings decades of experience in the legal profession. He was enrolled as an advocate in the District Judge Court in 1985 and in the High Court Division of the Supreme Court in 1987.

He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court Division on 27 August 2003 and became a permanent judge two years later. On 12 August 2024, he was elevated to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

In his academic career, Justice Chowdhury earned his LLB (Honours) and LLM degrees from the University of Dhaka. He later obtained a postgraduate degree in International Law from the United Kingdom.
