Kashimpur Women's Central Jail superintendent sacked over prisoner escape

The government has temporarily suspended Shirin Akhter, superintendent of Kashimpur Women's Central Jail in Gazipur, over allegations of negligence following the escape of a prisoner from the facility.

A notification was issued by the Security Services Division's Prison-1 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday (July 20).

The notification said that the Prison Directorate's report found evidence of gross negligence in the performance of duties by Superintendent Shirin Akhter in connection with the escape of a prisoner from Kashimpur Women's Central Jail on July 16 at around 7:50pm.

Based on the recommendation of the Prison Directorate, she has been temporarily suspended from government service under Section 39(1) of the Government Servants (Conduct) Act, 2018.

The notification further stated that she will receive subsistence allowance during the suspension period in accordance with existing financial rules and regulations. The order took immediate effect upon approval by the competent authority.
