Khaleda Zia able to receive treatment: Dr Zahid
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, 79, is able to receive medical treatment, her personal physician and standing committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said, urging all not to pay attention to rumours regarding her care.
He made the remarks on December 2 during a press briefing held in front of the main gate of Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara, where he discussed her latest health condition and treatment.
Dr Zahid said, “Khaleda Zia has been in the CCU since the 27th. She is able to receive treatment from the doctors, or you may say, she is able to maintain the doctors’ advice.”
He added that all preparations have been made to take her abroad for advanced treatment if required.
Seeking prayers from the nation, Dr Zahid said he believes Khaleda Zia will recover with the prayers of millions of people. He also expressed gratitude on behalf of the party to Indian prime minister Narendra Modi.
Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital since November 23, where tests detected a lung infection. The BNP had earlier stated that her condition was critical. She has been receiving intensive care in the critical care unit since November 27 under a medical board led by specialist physician Professor Shahabuddin Talukder, comprising local and foreign doctors.
Security has been tightened around Evercare Hospital since last night. Barricades have been placed on both sides of the main gate, and police have been deployed to prevent crowding and ensure her security. Police members said barricades were put up around 2am, and gatherings in the area were restricted.
Hospital sources said the deployment aims to ensure smooth movement for patients and their families, prevent congestion and strengthen security for Khaleda Zia.
