Khaleda Zia diagnosed with pneumonia, under close observation
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been diagnosed with pneumonia and is under close medical supervision at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka.
Doctors say she may need to be shifted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) if her condition does not improve.
She was admitted on Sunday night after tests confirmed pneumonia and an increase in her existing health complications.
Members of the medical board said her age and multiple health issues make treatment more complex, and she may need to remain hospitalized for about a week.
Medical board member Professor F M Siddiqui said she has a chest infection, and existing heart and lung complications have worsened her breathing. She is currently being treated in a cabin under cardiologist Professor Shahabuddin Talukder.
BNP physician A Z M Zahid Hossain said she is receiving intensive care with maximum caution.
Khaleda Zia, 79, has long suffered from arthritis, diabetes, kidney, lung and eye complications. She returned to Dhaka on 6 May after 117 days of treatment in London.
