Khaleda Zia honoured at Chief Justice's reception

The late BNP Chairperson and three-time Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was remembered with deep respect during a reception for Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury on Sunday (January 4).

The event was held at Appellate Division’s Courtroom No. 1 and jointly organised by the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Attorney General’s office.

Additional Attorney General Mohammad ArshadurRouf paid tribute to Khaleda Zia, saying, “We offer our heartfelt respect to Bangladesh’s three-time Prime Minister and national leader, who dedicated her life to the nation and democracy. We pray to Almighty Allah to grant her Jannatul Ferdous.”

Supreme Court Bar Association President Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokon also highlighted her contributions, stating, “Khaleda Zia fought tirelessly for the independence of the judiciary and the establishment of democracy. We remember her with profound respect.”

The reception was attended by judges from both divisions of the Supreme Court, senior lawyers, journalists, and court officials. Chief Justice Chowdhury was sworn in as the 26th Chief Justice of Bangladesh on December 28, 2025.
