Khaleda Zia’s body moved to Gulshan residence
The body of former prime minister and BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been taken from Evercare Hospital to a Gulshan residence in Dhaka.
The flag-draped hearse reached the residence at house No. 196 in Gulshan around 9:15am on Wednesday morning, following its departure from Evercare Hospital at about 8:40am under tight security.
The vehicle travelled via the July 36 Expressway, crossed the Kuril Flyover and passed the Navy Headquarters area before arriving in Gulshan.
Khaleda Zia’s funeral prayers (janaza) will be held after Zuhr on Wednesday at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital. The prayers will be led by Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Khatib Mufti Abdul Malek. Preparations for the funeral have already been completed.
After the janaza, she will be laid to rest beside the grave of her husband, martyred president Ziaur Rahman.
To ensure security and the smooth conduct of the funeral, 27 platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed at Manik Mia Avenue and other key locations in the capital.
Begum Khaleda Zia died at 6:00am on Tuesday (December 30) while undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital.
Following her death, the government declared a three-day state mourning from Wednesday to Friday (December 31 to January 2) and announced a general holiday nationwide on Wednesday.
