The body of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia reached the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday under tight security.

It was transported in a freezer van draped with the red and green national flag, escorted by a human chain of army personnel as part of the state protocol.

The van carrying her body departed from her son Tarique Rahman’s residence at 196 Gulshan Avenue at 11:05am and arrived at the South Plaza at 11:48am.

Earlier, at 8:54am, her body was taken from Evercare Hospital to Gulshan. Initially, it was planned to move her to her longtime residence ‘Firoza,’ but the route was later changed to Tarique Rahman’s residence, where family members and BNP leaders paid their final respects until the van departed.

Khaleda Zia’s janaza will be held after Zuhr prayers at Manik Mia Avenue, led by Mufti Abdul Malek, Khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. She will be buried beside her late husband, former President Ziaur Rahman, with full state honors.

Representatives from India, Pakistan, and several other South and Southeast Asian countries have arrived in Dhaka to pay their respects.
