Khaleda Zia’s funeral, burial to be held in coordination with BNP: Press Secretary
Chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus’s press secretary Shafiqul Alam has said that the funeral and burial of BNP chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia will be completed in coordination with her party.
He shared the information during a briefing on Tuesday, December 30, following a meeting at the Secretariat regarding funeral arrangements and law and order.
Shafiqul Alam said the funeral prayer will be held on Wednesday at the South Plaza of Manik Mia Avenue. Her body will be taken from Evercare Hospital to the National Parliament complex in the morning, with special security measures enforced along the entire route. The body will be carried with state honour, and both the funeral and burial will be conducted with full state honours.
He added that the funeral prayer will be attended by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, other advisers, senior BNP leaders and foreign diplomats. On the occasion, condolence books will be opened at the Parliament complex, Bangladesh missions abroad and BNP party offices.
Highlighting security measures, Shafiqul Alam said more than 10,000 members of law enforcement agencies will be deployed, and army personnel will remain on standby if necessary.
Meanwhile, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s chief security officer, retired Brigadier General Shamsul Islam, said that members of the public will be able to pay their last respects along the route from Evercare Hospital to the Parliament complex.
