Khaleda Zia's funeral held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban

The Namaaj-E-Janaza (funeral prayer) of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was held on Wednesday afternoon (December 31) at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, with millions of people participating.

The prayer was led by Mufti Md. Abdul Malek, khatib of the National Mosque Baitul Mukarram.

Earlier, shortly after noon, Khaleda Zia’s coffin, draped in the national flag, was brought into the South Plaza.

Earlier, at around 11:00am, the ambulance carrying her body departed from the residence of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman at house No. 196 on Gulshan Avenue. The ambulance had reached the residence at 9:17am under tight security.

Following the janaza, she is now being laid to rest beside her late husband, former President Ziaur Rahman. Several foreign dignitaries, including representatives from India, Pakistan, and other South and Southeast Asian countries, attended to pay their respects.

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus and other high-ranking officials, including the three service chiefs, were also present at the funeral.
