BNP's former secretary general and the party's presidential nominee Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the sacrifices and inspiration of former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia continue to guide the party.

He made the remarks at a milad and doa mahfil organised at BNP's central office in Naya Paltan on Saturday to mark Khaleda Zia's 82nd birthday.

Mirza Fakhrul said Khaleda Zia is a leader deeply intertwined with Bangladesh's destiny. Through her leadership and long struggle, the movement to re-establish democracy in the country has advanced time and again. She has also fought for the prosperity of Bangladesh.

He said the sacrifices and inspiration of Khaleda Zia have played a key role in BNP's journey as a democratic political party through prolonged struggles. He also spoke of strengthening BNP further, keeping her ideals in mind.

Expressing determination to build BNP as a modern and democratic party, Mirza Fakhrul said leaders and activists should take an oath on Khaleda Zia's birthday to establish BNP as a modern democratic party capable of effectively leading Bangladesh.

He further said public expectations have risen significantly since BNP formed the government. The party must work in the coming days to implement Khaleda Zia's 'Vision 2030' and the later announced 31-point programme. He also stressed the need to strengthen the party and preserve the country's independence and sovereignty.

The event was addressed by BNP National Standing Committee members Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and Dr Abdul Moeen Khan. Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi conducted the programme, while Jatiyatabadi Olam Dal Member Secretary Maulana Abul Hossain led the prayers.
