Khelafat Majlis leaves Jamaat-led 11-party alliance

Khelafat Majlis has left the 11-party unity led by Jamaat-e-Islami. The decision was taken at the third general session of the party's Central Majlis-e-Shura at the Diploma Engineers' Institute auditorium in the capital on Saturday (July 25) morning, said its publicity secretary, Engineer Abdul Hafiz Khasru.

In a press release, he said Khelafat Majlis will refrain from all programmes of the 11-party unity from now on. However, if the need arises in the future to form a broader unity, they will consider the matter.

The press release stated that the 11-party unity was essentially an electoral understanding. With the elections over, the effectiveness of this alliance has effectively come to an end.

Nevertheless, after the elections, Khelafat Majlis participated in some programmes of the 11-party alliance. It has now been decided to refrain from all programmes of the 11-party unity going forward. In the future, if necessary for the country, the nation and Islam, efforts to form a broader unity will continue.

The session was chaired by Khelafat Majlis Ameer Maulana Abdul Basit Azad and conducted by Secretary General Dr Ahmad Abdul Qader. The session was attended by Naibe Ameer Maulana Sakhawat Hossain, Maulana Ahmad Ali Qasemi, Professor Abdullah Farid, Professor Sirajul Haque, Maulana Sayyed Ferdaus bin Ishaq, Mufti Abdul Hamid, Joint Secretaries Advocate Jahangir Hossain, Muhammad Muntasir Ali, ABM Sirajul Mamun, Dr Mostafizur Rahman Faisal, Professor Md Abdul Jalil, Organising Secretary Advocate Mizanur Rahman, Mufti Abul Hasan MP, along with members of the central executive council and members of the Central Majlis-e-Shura.

Earlier, after the divisional rally of the 11-party alliance in Chattogram on June 13, Khelafat Majlis formally informed the alliance not to use the party's name or the names of its leaders in banners or campaigns of future rallies. When the name was used at a rally in Rangpur later, it was withdrawn following objections. Since then, Khelafat Majlis's name has not been used in any programmes of the alliance, according to party sources.
