‘Killer Babu’ killed in mob lynching in Lalbagh

A youth has been killed in mob lynching in the capital’s Lalbagh.

The incident took place around 3:30am at Shahid Nagar area on Sunday (August 17).

The deceased has been identified as Taufiqul Islam, 26, alias ‘Killer Babu’ and ‘Tera Babu’.

Mustafa Kamal Khan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Lalbagh Police Station, confirmed about the incident.

He said, "Locals detained Taufiqul near the Shahid Nagar Lohar Bridge and started beating him. On information, members of the Azimpur Army Camp rescued him in a seriously injured condition and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead around 7:45am."

"Taufiqul Islam is facing 8 to 10 cases at Lalbagh Police Station, including multiple drug-related charges," the OC added.

Taufiqul's body has been kept at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
