The government has revoked the dismissal order of Md Kohinoor Mia, former deputy commissioner (west) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), after nearly 16 and a half years. At the same time, a decision has been taken to consider the period of his dismissal as service tenure and grant him all unpaid salaries, allowances and entitled benefits.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday, the President has approved the reconsideration appeal against the 'dismissal' major penalty of this 12th BCS officer. As a result, his dismissal order stands revoked with immediate effect, and he has been reinstated in police service.

Md Kohinoor Mia was dismissed on October 4, 2009, during the Awami League government. He was last serving as deputy commissioner (DC) of DMP.

Kohinoor Mia first came into the spotlight following a police operation on the night of July 23, 2002, during the BNP-led alliance government, at Dhaka University's Shamsunnahar Hall where protesting students were present. Police broke open the hall gate and entered, drawing widespread criticism.

Later, during the army-backed caretaker government in 2007, while serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Mymensingh, he was made an accused in a double murder case.

On May 5, 2004, during a municipal election in Nandail, Mymensingh, two individuals named Sujan and Abu Taher were killed in clashes. Initially, a case was filed against unidentified persons, and police submitted final reports three times.

In 7, defeated Awami League leader Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan filed a fresh case in court, which made then-SP Kohinoor Mia and five others accused. Later, on court order, the case was reinvestigated, and subsequently, the investigation was handed over to CID.

In 2011, CID submitted a chargesheet against Kohinoor Mia and former municipal mayor Abdus Sattar.

After a long legal process spanning 20 years and six months, Mymensingh Additional District and Sessions Judge Sabrina Ali acquitted them on November 24, 2025. This resulted in his discharge from the criminal cases filed against him.

The notification stated that the court declared him innocent in the criminal case filed on the same allegations for which the departmental case was initiated against him. Following the President's approval, the major penalty of 'dismissal from service' imposed on him has been revoked.
