Language, identity and religion part of natural diversity: Information Minister
Information and Broadcasting Minister Jahir Uddin Swapan has said language, ethnicity, religious identity, culture and geographical location are part of the natural diversity of human civilisation. Allah has created humanity in diversity. Therefore, it is neither realistic nor beneficial for human civilisation for any individual, group, nation or ideology to establish dominance over the entire world.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Al-Ummah Foundation's website and 'Al-Ummah Journal' at a hotel in the capital on Saturday, July 4.
The minister said the current world is going through deep and multidimensional crises centred on ethnic, religious, linguistic, cultural and geographical identities. The permanent solution to these crises lies not in dominance but in mutual respect, dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
He emphasised the importance of respecting diversity and establishing universal human values for the sustainable progress of human civilisation.
Jahir Uddin Swapan said many conflicts in the world today have been created around identity crises. Ethnic, religious, linguistic or cultural divisions have become causes of conflict. Researchers, thinkers and representatives of various ideologies must build a common humanitarian position to overcome these crises.
He said history proves that war, displays of power or dominance have never provided a permanent solution to civilisation. Rather, the exchange of free thought, the pursuit of knowledge and mutual respect have advanced human civilisation.
Welcoming the initiative of the Al-Ummah Foundation on behalf of the Bangladesh government, the minister said the government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is working to establish peaceful coexistence, harmony and an inclusive world order.
He further said the true strength of Islam lies not merely in formal religious rituals but in its humanitarian consciousness, moral values and spiritual philosophy.
