Today is the last day for withdrawal of candidature for the country's 23rd presidential election. Candidates may withdraw their nomination by 4pm on Tuesday, August 18.

If no candidate withdraws, voting for the presidency will be held on Thursday, August 20. Election Commission officials said candidates have until 4pm to withdraw as per the schedule. After that, the final list of candidates will be published.

If multiple candidates remain, voting will take place on August 20 at the Jatiya Sangsad session hall. EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said voting will be held from 2pm to 5pm.

MPs will receive ballot papers, sign them and cast their votes in one of three designated ballot boxes. Counting will begin immediately after voting ends at 5pm. The Chief Election Commissioner will announce the number of valid votes and each candidate's tally.

Two candidates have submitted nomination papers for the presidency. BNP has nominated its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, with Standing Committee member Abdul Moeen Khan as proposer and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy as seconder. The Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance has fielded Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Colonel (retd.) Oli Ahmed.
