The Appellate Division has upheld the High Court’s bail order for former minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, removing all legal barriers to his release.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury passed the order on Monday (November 10).

The court also said that co-accused journalist Monjurul Alam Panna will have to wait until the written bail order from the High Court is received before he can be released.

Earlier, the state had appealed to the Chamber Court seeking a stay on the High Court’s bail order, which was granted by the bench of Justice A S M Abdul Mobin and Justice Sagir Hossain on November 6.

Latif Siddiqui and several others were arrested on August 28 from a “Manch-71” event at the Dhaka Reporters Unity. The next day, 16 people, including Siddiqui, Hafizur Rahman Karzon, and Md Abdullah Al Amin, were sent to jail in the same case.
