Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul on Wednesday inaugurated the Digital Bail Bond (e-Bail Bond) system in eight districts, including Manikganj, Bandarban, Meherpur and Joypurhat, aiming to modernise and make the justice system more citizen-friendly.

The service was formally launched at 10:00am at the Secretariat.

According to the Law Ministry, the introduction of the e-Bail Bond will significantly speed up the bail process through an online system, enabling the release of detainees within an hour in many cases.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Dr Nazrul said that previously securing bail required passing through 10 to 12 procedural steps, leading to delays, financial costs and widespread harassment. In some cases, the process took several hours or even days.

He added that the digital system will maintain a complete record of who signs and when, leaving no scope for intentional delays in the bail process.

He further said the initiative would play a vital role in enhancing transparency and accountability in the justice system.

Notably, the e-Bail Bond system has been introduced to replace the traditional paper-based bail bond process as part of efforts to modernise the judiciary and reduce the suffering of litigants. According to the Law Ministry, the digital system will significantly save time and costs for litigants, the prison administration and lawyers.

The e-Bail Bond programme was first launched on a pilot basis in Narayanganj district, where it has been operating successfully. Following its success, the service was expanded on Wednesday to Manikganj, Bandarban, Meherpur, Joypurhat, Moulvibazar, Panchagarh, Jhalakathi and Sherpur.
