Lawyer beaten to death in Bashundhara

A lawyer has been beaten to death in Bashundhara residential area of the capital. The incident took place on Wednesday night.
The deceased is Naeem Kibria, 35, son of Golam Kibria, hailed from Pabna Sadar Upazila.He was a lawyer at the Pabna District Judge's Court.
Bhatara Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Ariful Islam confirmed the news on Thursday.
The deceased's cousin Rafiqul Islam alleged that Naeem was a victim of mob violence. The private car he was driving was also vandalized by the attackers.
Bhatara Police Station SI Ariful Islam said that a motorcycle collided with the private car driven by Naeem in Bashundhara residential area at 10 pm yesterday. Then some unidentified youths including the motorcycle driver dragged him out of the car, beat him brutally and left him on the road and fled.
On receiving the information, his cousin Rafiqul Islam reached the spot, rescued Naeem and took him to Kurmitola General Hospital. The doctor on duty there declared him dead.
Later, the police recovered the body from the hospital and sent it to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Rafiqul Islam said that Naeem had come to Dhaka from Pabna about 10 days ago and stayed at his house. He had come to Dhaka to seek bail from the High Court in a case related to the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement in Pabna.
He also said that on the night of the incident, Naeem was driving his friend's private car. Later, when he called his mobile phone, a security guard from Bashundhara area picked up the phone and said that Naeem had been beaten and left. After that, they went to the spot and rescued him and took him to the hospital, but his life could not be saved.
