Let us not distort the history of 1971: State Minister Ishraque

Liberation War Affairs State Minister Ishraque Hossain has urged everyone to remain vigilant so that the history of the 1971 Liberation War is not distorted in any way. At the same time, he stressed that the history of the July mass uprising should not be presented as the sole achievement of any individual or political party.

The state minister made these remarks at a memorial meeting in Dhaka's Jatrabari area on Saturday.

Ishraque Hossain said those who were martyred and injured in the July mass uprising are the pride of the nation. Their sacrifices have moved Bangladesh towards a new reality. The state will remain eternally indebted to them.

He said the July mass uprising was not the movement of any single individual or political party. It saw participation from various political parties, organisations and people from all walks of life. Therefore, no single individual or political party has the right to claim sole credit for this movement.

The state minister said July is nobody's ancestral property. Do not sell July. It was a universal movement and must be preserved as such. The dignity of all martyrs of July must be upheld, and the dignity of Bangladesh must be protected.

He said alongside BNP, leaders and activists of various political parties and organisations, including Gonoadhikar Parishad and the Revolutionary Workers Party, were on the ground during the movement. Many of them were martyred and injured. Therefore, the history of this movement should not be claimed solely by any single entity.
