Local government elections to be held this year: Mirza Fakhrul
Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that local government elections will be held this year.
He stated, "Work is underway regarding local government elections. Undoubtedly, local government elections will be held this year, and they will be held as soon as possible."
Mirza Fakhrul shared this information while speaking with journalists on contemporary issues at the party chairman's office in Gulshan on Wednesday evening, March 18.
Claiming that the new BNP-led government's election pledges have begun to materialise within a month of taking office, Mirza Fakhrul said, "Whenever BNP comes to power, some global turmoil emerges. This time too, shortly after taking responsibility, a major crisis like the Iran-Israel war has arisen. However, due to the government's competence, no fuel oil crisis has occurred in the country, and oil prices have not increased. Even amid the crisis, it has been possible to pay garment sector workers' salaries on time."
Regarding party activities, the BNP Secretary General said, "Although party activities are currently at a small scale, BNP's party council will be held within this year. Additionally, work on local government elections is progressing rapidly, and the government plans to complete these elections as soon as possible within this year."
Evaluating the government's overall performance, the local government minister said, "In one month, we are seeing success in all sectors of the government. The parliamentary session has already convened, and important discussions are underway. However, the biggest challenge before us now is to restore and strengthen the country's economy. The government is working towards this goal."
When asked about accidents like the train derailment in Santahar, the minister said initiatives have been taken to quickly resolve such unforeseen problems, and rail services will normalise and become safe very soon.
