Local government elections to begin mid-November
The momentum for local government elections is building across the country. As part of the government's announced plan, the Election Commission (EC) has set a target to begin the election process from mid-November.
Senior Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud has said that in the first phase, voting at the field level will be held through Union Parishad elections.
Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud disclosed this important information during a discussion with journalists at his office at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon, Dhaka, on Monday, September 14.
Clarifying the plan, the commissioner said the country's local government election activities will formally begin from mid-November.
In the initial phase, it has been decided to complete Union Parishad elections, which the commission will conduct across the country in several phases.
The election commissioner gave a clear message regarding the existing legal framework.
When journalists asked about amendments to the law, he noted that if no new changes or amendments to the law come within the stipulated time, the commission will ensure conducting the elections based on the existing law. There will be no legal or operational complications in holding the polls within the scheduled time.
