Local Govt polls soon after necessary preparation: Mirza Fakhrul
Local government elections will be held soon after necessary preparations, said Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir regarding the local government elections.
He said this during the question and answer session in the National Parliament on Monday (April 27). The issue was raised during the question and answer table in the session chaired by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
Mirza Fakhrul said that the election process of local government institutions will be started soon after the necessary preparations are completed. The issue is currently under active consideration by the government.
In response to a question from MP Rumeen Farhana, the minister said that local government elections are usually held in stages and it takes about 10 months to a year to complete all stages of elections.
He also said that before announcing the election schedule, various issues including preparation of voter lists, collection of election equipment, religious festivals, public examinations, weather conditions, finalization and renovation of centers, and training of election officials are taken into consideration.
He also said that the government is moving towards organizing transparent and fair elections by quickly completing preparations.
