Long term bet on US brings no regret for Bangladesh: US ambassador
If you bet on the US in the long term, you will never regret it, said US Ambassador Brent Christensen.
He said this during a meeting with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman at the Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
Christensen said: "I am here for a very important reason. Last night, the United States won a great victory against Australia in the World Cup and have advanced to the next round. So I am here to encourage the Foreign Minister and all Bangladeshis to support the US in the World Cup in the coming days. Because if you bet on the US in the long term, you will never regret it."
Brent T. Christensen met Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman just before the Prime Minister leaves for Malaysia and China on his first foreign tour. Prime Minister's Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir described their meeting at the Foreign Ministry on Saturday as routine.
Brent Christensen said that maintaining close relations with the United States will benefit the country in the long run.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's first six-day visit to Malaysia and China begins on Sunday. The Prime Minister will attend the World Economic Forum-WEF conference in Dalian on June 23-24 and attend various bilateral meetings.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the Great Hall of China on the afternoon of June 25, the Foreign Secretary said. The Prime Minister will hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on June 26 the next day.
Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that 13 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and two agreements will be signed with China in the sectors of education, agriculture, trade, investment, development cooperation, media cooperation and green energy.
