Looter bought TV, fridge with money stolen from Prothom Alo, Daily Star offices

Law enforcement agencies have arrested 17 people in raids across Dhaka and other parts of the country in connection with the recent attacks on the offices of the national dailies Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, as well as two cultural organisations.

One of the arrestees, Md. Naim, has reportedly admitted during initial interrogation to buying a television and a refrigerator with the stolen money.

A press release issued by the principal adviser's press wing on Monday, November 22, stated that Md. Naim, a resident of Kuni Para in Tejgaon, Dhaka, was arrested from Chauddagram upazila in Cumilla. Taka 50,000 looted in the incident was recovered from him.

During preliminary interrogation, Naim confessed to looting a total of Taka 1 lakh 23 thousand. He used the money to buy a TV and a refrigerator from the Mohammadpur area, which have since been recovered.

The press release further stated that on Sunday, November 21, police and other law enforcement agencies informed Principal Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus that video footage analysis has led to the preliminary identification of 31 individuals suspected of involvement in these incidents.

Additionally, three individuals have been identified via video footage in connection with the attempt to create disorder near the residence of the Indian Assistant High Commissioner in Chattogram.
