The lottery system for school admissions will no longer be in place from next year, Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon has announced.

The education minister shared this information at a press conference at the Ministry of Education on Monday afternoon, March 16.

The lottery system for school admissions has been permanently abolished, the education minister said. As a result, there will be no more admissions through lottery from Class 1 onwards. At the same time, we will not introduce any competition that puts excessive pressure on students.

This system was introduced during the previous government's tenure. Initially, the lottery method was implemented only for Class 1 admissions. From the 2011 academic year, admissions through lottery were made mandatory instead of admission tests for Class 1 in government secondary schools. The following year, the same system was introduced in private schools. However, admissions from Class 2 to Class 9 were still conducted through examinations.

Later, due to the coronavirus pandemic, students were admitted to all classes through lottery for the 2021 academic year. Since then, the admission process has been continuing through the same method until now.
