Low pressure forms over Bay triggers warning signal no. 3 at four ports

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a local warning signal No. 3 at four seaports as a low-pressure system formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal, raising the possibility of gusty winds in the sea and coastal areas.

The warning applies to Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra ports, according to a maritime warning issued by the Met office on Saturday (August 29).

The low-pressure area is currently located over the northwest Bay and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and northern Odisha. It may move west-northwestward, the bulletin said.

Under its influence, gusty or squally winds may sweep across the north Bay and coastal areas of Bangladesh, while the sea could become rough.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

Meanwhile, the weather forecast says rain or thundershowers may occur at many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at a few places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions until 9am Sunday.

Some areas may experience moderately heavy rainfall, accompanied by temporary gusty winds. Day and night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged across the country.
