A low-pressure system has formed over the southwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of northern Odisha, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department to forecast increased rainfall, gusty winds and thunderstorms across several parts of the country.

The weather office said the system could intensify the ongoing rainfall pattern, with moderate to very heavy rain possible in isolated areas.

According to the forecast valid until 6:00pm Sunday, many areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds.

Some areas of Rajshahi, Dhaka and Barishal divisions may also receive rain or thundershowers during the period.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said moderate to heavy rainfall could occur at some places across the country.

Meteorologist Dr Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik said the low-pressure system could increase the likelihood of rainfall in different parts of Bangladesh.

Rainfall may cause daytime temperatures to fall slightly, while nighttime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

For the subsequent 24-hour period from 6:00pm Sunday, many areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Khulna, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are likely to receive rain or thundershowers.

Some parts of Dhaka and Barishal divisions may also experience light to moderate rain with temporary gusty winds.

The weather office has warned that moderate to heavy rainfall could occur in isolated areas during this period. Meanwhile, both daytime and nighttime temperatures across the country may rise slightly.
