Low-pressure system triggers signal No. 3 at four seaports
A low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Odisha-West Bengal coast, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) to issue Local Warning Signal No. 3 for all four maritime ports.
In a special weather bulletin issued on Wednesday (July 15), the BMD said the system could trigger squally weather over coastal areas, the northern Bay of Bengal and nearby seaports.
As a precaution, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been advised to hoist Local Warning Signal No. 3.
The weather office also urged fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay to remain close to the coast and navigate with extreme caution until further notice.
Meanwhile, the inland river forecast valid until 6:00pm warned that Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram and Cox's Bazar may experience temporary gusty or squally winds of 45–60 km/h, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms.
River ports in these regions have been instructed to display Cautionary Signal No. 1.
Authorities have advised residents and maritime operators to remain alert as the weather system continues to develop.
