Madrasa superintendent arrested in Khulna for chaining 10-year-old student
Police have arrested the superintendent of a madrasa in Khulna on charges of chaining a 10-year-old student's leg and keeping him confined. The arrest was made on Sunday night, July 5, from the Shalua Hamiussunnah Darul Ulum Madrasa under Arangghata Police Station.
The matter was confirmed by Arangghata Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Halimur Rahman.
According to the family's complaint, the child's father, a day labourer, had enrolled him at the madrasa to become a Hafiz. However, the superintendent allegedly made the child do various personal chores, including grazing cattle. When the child objected, he was also beaten.
The child's mother said her son often ran away from the madrasa and came home. On Sunday afternoon, when family members went to bring him, they could not find him at first. Later, the child's grandfather found him chained by the leg near the madrasa.
Police arrived at the scene, rescued the child and arrested the accused superintendent.
OC Md Halimur Rahman said during interrogation, the accused admitted to chaining and beating the child. A case has been filed by the child's mother, and further legal action is underway.
