Madrasa teacher's DNA sample collected in Netrokona child rape case
The DNA sample of a madrasa teacher accused of raping an 11-year-old student in Netrokona, which left her pregnant, has been collected as part of the investigation, officials said.
The accused, Aman Ullah Mahmudi Sagar, was taken to the CID office in Dhaka on May 16, where his DNA sample was collected the following day, Netrokona Court Inspector Mohammad Riyadh Mahmud told The Daily Star.
The court had ordered the DNA test on May 10 following an application by the investigating officer. The accused is currently in jail custody, while the court has fixed June 28 as the next date for the case.
Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Md Akhtaruzzaman said further legal action would be taken once the DNA test report is received.
The victim's mother filed the case on April 23 at Madan Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000. According to the complaint, the teacher raped the minor on multiple occasions, resulting in her pregnancy.
On May 7, the court placed the accused on a three-day remand. After the remand period, he was produced before the court on May 10, when the investigating officer sought a DNA test to support the probe.
The victim was sent to a safe shelter under the Department of Social Services in Sylhet on May 12 following a court order, after her mother sought protection for her safety and future. She is currently receiving treatment and remains under protective custody.
