The Immigration Department has stopped Mahdi Hasan, former member secretary of the Habiganj district branch of Students Against Discrimination, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The incident took place at the airport on Thursday night.

Officials of several intelligence agencies working at the airport confirmed the matter. They said Mahdi was not allowed to go abroad and was sent back from the airport. The officials also said there are objections regarding his foreign travel.

Mahdi Hasan himself also confirmed the matter to the media. He said he was scheduled to go to Jamaica on an Etihad Airways flight at 9:35pm on Thursday. However, after going to the airport, he was not allowed to go abroad.

Mahdi claimed he is on bail in all the cases against him. Even then, he was not allowed to go abroad.

Mahdi said police advised him to take court permission to go abroad. He later left the airport area.

However, no statement could be obtained from the immigration authorities regarding Mahdi being stopped.
