Mahmudur Rahman acquitted in attempted murder case
A Dhaka court acquitted Mahmudur Rahman, the editor of Amar Desh, on Monday in the case involving an alleged attempt to abduct and murder Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The verdict was delivered by Tariq Ejaz, the Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge in Dhaka. Mahmudur Rahman was present in court when the verdict was announced. His lawyer, Tanvir Ahmed Al-Amin, confirmed the decision.
On September 29 last year, Mahmudur Rahman surrendered to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court and applied for bail while filing his appeal. However, the court denied his request and ordered his imprisonment.
After spending five days in jail, he was granted bail by the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on October 3, 2024.
