A Dhaka court on Thursday granted bail to Mahmudur Rahman, the former acting editor of Amar Desh, in connection with a case involving an alleged conspiracy to abduct and murder Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the son of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Tanvir Ahmed Al Amin, lawyer of Mahmudur Rahman, said, "Today we filed an appeal against Mahmudur Rahman's sentence. The court accepted the appeal. Then, we requested bail, and the court granted it." Earlier, on September 29, Mahmudur Rahman surrendered to Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque and requested bail while appealing the sentence. After the hearing, the judge denied his bail request and ordered him to be sent to jail.

সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনার ছেলে সজীব ওয়াজেদ জয়কে অপহরণ করে হত্যার ষড়যন্ত্রের অভিযোগে করা মামলায় জামিন পেলেন দৈনিক আমার দেশ পত্রিকার ভারপ্রাপ্ত সম্পাদক মাহমুদুর রহমান। ঢাকা মহানগর দায়রা জজ আদালতের বিচারক মোহাম্মদ আস সামছ জগলুল হোসেন শুনানি শেষে বৃহস্পতিবার তার জামিন মঞ্জুর করেন। মাহমুদুর রহমানের আইনজীবী তানভীর আহম্মেদ আল আমিন বলেন, 'আজ মাহমুদুর রহমানের সাজার বিরুদ্ধে আমরা আপিল করেছি। আদালত আপিল গ্রহণ করেন। এরপর আমরা জামিন চাইলে আদালত তা মঞ্জুর করেন।' এর আগে গত ২৯ সেপ্টেম্বর ঢাকার অতিরিক্ত চিফ মেট্রোপলিটন ম্যাজিস্ট্রেট মাহবুবুল হকের আদালতে তিনি আত্মসমর্পণ করে আপিল শর্তে জামিন আবেদন করেন। শুনানি শেষে বিচারক তার জামিন আবেদন নামঞ্জুর করে কারাগারে পাঠানোর আদেশ দেন।
