The High Court has granted bail to former member of parliament and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman in a case filed over allegations of obstructing government duties and behaving improperly with officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajal and Justice Md Zakir Hossain granted him bail after a hearing on Sunday (1 November 2026).

Senior lawyer Mohammad Shishir Monir represented Akhtaruzzaman during the bail hearing.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested him from his residence in the DOHS area of Dhaka Cantonment on the afternoon of 2 October. He was accused of threatening officials responsible for airport security.

According to the case statement, tensions erupted at the airport on 1 October over alleged mismanagement, a shortage of luggage trolleys, delays in baggage delivery and the unavailability of Zamzam water. The situation reportedly escalated, with threats and intimidation alleged to have followed.

A case was subsequently filed against Akhtaruzzaman on allegations of creating disorder at the airport, obstructing government duties and harassing a security official. He was arrested in connection with the allegations.
