Maldives President to arrive in Dhaka for oath ceremony

Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is coming to Dhaka to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh's new government led by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. Additionally, Turkish Undersecretary Berris Ekinci will also attend the ceremony.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed this information on Monday afternoon.

BNP secured an absolute victory in the 13th National Parliamentary Election held on Thursday. The party alone has won 209 seats. Including alliance partners, the BNP-led alliance's seat count stands at 212. Additionally, BNP candidates are leading in the two constituencies where results have been suspended. BNP is forming the government after nearly two decades.

The oath for members of the new cabinet will be administered at the South Plaza of the National Parliament building tomorrow, Tuesday afternoon. Around 1,200 domestic and foreign guests may attend the oath ceremony.

Among the foreign guests, representatives from five South Asian countries including Bhutan's Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, India's Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and Pakistan's Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal are arriving in Dhaka to attend the ceremony.

UK's Under Secretary for Indo-Pacific Seema Malhotra will also attend the ceremony. Additionally, Nepal's Foreign Minister Bala Nanda Sharma and Sri Lanka's Health Minister Nalinda Jayatissa will be present.

Chief Adviser of the interim government Professor Muhammad Yunus invited heads of government from 13 countries including China, India and Pakistan on Saturday to attend the new Bangladesh government's oath ceremony. The invited countries are China, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UAE, Qatar, Malaysia, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan.
