Malls, shops to remain open until 10pm on Eid
The Bangladesh Shop Owners Association has extended the opening hours of markets, shopping malls and businesses in the country ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha. According to the new decision, markets, shopping malls and shops in the country can remain open until 10pm from today, May 12, until Eid-ul-Azha.
The organization gave this information in a press release on Tuesday (May 12).
The release said that the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has agreed to extend the opening hours of businesses following the application of the Shop Owners Association.
However, some conditions have been imposed to prevent wastage of electricity. The association said that no additional lighting or unnecessary electricity can be used.
Traders say that the pressure of shopping has started increasing around Eid. Especially in the evening, there is a large crowd of buyers after the office. Therefore, both traders and buyers will benefit from the decision to extend the hours.
On the other hand, it is known that the government has also decided to extend the hours to a limited extent, keeping in mind the issue of saving electricity.
Every year, markets and shopping malls in major cities across the country, including the capital, are crowded with shoppers before Eid. Traders are hoping that the extra time will ease the pressure of shopping and increase sales.
