Mamtaz used to sing to Ivy in jail
Singer and former member of parliament Mamtaz Begum used to regularly sing to former Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy during her time in jail.
Ivy shared this prison experience after returning home following her release on bail.
She said that during leisure hours in jail, musical sessions would take place where Mamtaz would primarily perform.
According to Ivy, there was a particular song whose one line reminded her of her late brother, so she had asked Mamtaz not to sing it. Later, she said she had no objection to Mamtaz singing it on the day of her release, as she would then be able to share her grief with family.
Ivy's brother, Ahmad Ali Reza Ripon, died of a heart attack on April 7 last year. She was arrested about a month later and spent a long time in jail.
Musical sessions continued inside the jail on the day of Ivy's release as well, where Mamtaz performed a song. Ivy's account of her prison experience has sparked widespread discussion on social media.
