Man held for allegedly filming female students at JU washroom
A man has been detained on charges of secretly filming female students inside a women's washroom at Jahangirnagar University's (JU) Teacher-Student Centre (TSC). He was later handed over to police.
Riaz Ahmed, also known as Raj, was detained around 2:30 am on Tuesday from the TSC building. He is a resident of Keraniganj and reportedly works as a branch manager at RFL Electronics.
According to the complaint, Riaz entered the women's washroom at TSC. A female student spotted him inside and questioned his presence. When he failed to provide a satisfactory answer, she informed other students nearby.
Students detained Riaz and checked his mobile phone, where they found multiple videos secretly recorded of female students. His phone also contained several Telegram channels linked to sharing such content, along with other previously recorded videos.
University security and proctorial team members arrived at the scene, brought the situation under control and informed Ashulia Police Station. After completing administrative procedures, the accused was handed over to police.
JU Proctor Professor Rashidul Alam said the incident was highly objectionable. The university has decided to file a case against the accused.
