Mandatory 60-hour training to obtain driving licence: Transport Adviser
Ministry of Road Transport, Bridges and Railways Adviser Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan has said that the government has made 60 hours of training mandatory for all applicants seeking a driving licence.
Speaking at a discussion marking National Road Safety Day 2025 in Tejgaon on Wednesday (October 22), he said existing ancillary committees will be abolished, and the BRTA will be transformed into a service-oriented rather than a regulatory body.
Training will be conducted under the supervision of the Army and BRTC, he added.
Fauzul Kabir further stated that unfit vehicles are being sent for dumping, and the drive will be intensified. To curb motorcycle accidents, 10,000 quality helmets will be distributed nationwide.
He also noted that with World Bank support, ambulances are being stationed at key locations to ensure the rapid transfer of road accident victims to hospitals.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s Special Assistant Mohammad Khoda Bakhsh Chowdhury stressed the need to establish international-standard driving schools and urged transport owners and workers’ associations to play a more active role in ensuring road safety.
