Many loan defaulters’ nominations declared valid: Nahid

Nahid Islam, convener of the NCP, has alleged that many loan defaulters’ election nominations have been declared valid. He expressed dissatisfaction over the level playing field in the upcoming election at the same time.

He made these remarks after a meeting with the election observation delegation led by Ivars Ijabs, Chief Election Observer of the European Union, on Saturday, 10 January, afternoon.

Nahid said, “We currently do not have confidence in the level playing field of the election. Signals are being sent to favor a particular party, which sends a different message to the people.” He added that he had communicated this issue to the EU delegation, who assured that they would perform their observer duties impartially in the upcoming election.

He further alleged that many loan defaulters’ nominations have been declared valid. Various electoral codes of conduct are being violated. The Election Commission is still silent on this matter.

Nahid also said, “Due to the lack of justice for the killers of Sharif Osman Hadi, insecurity prevails everywhere. Nevertheless, we will continue our work on the ground.”
