The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has asked the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3 as a low-pressure area has formed over the northwest and west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.

The weather system is currently positioned over the northwest and west-central Bay and nearby coastal areas, while the monsoon remains fairly active over Bangladesh and strong over the north Bay, the Met Office said.

Under its influence, gusty winds may affect the maritime ports, the north Bay and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh.

Fishing boats and trawlers in the north Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and operate with caution until further notice.

In its forecast issued at 6pm on Friday, the Met Office said light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds, may occur at many places across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.

Moderately heavy rainfall may also occur at some places across the country.
