Masud Uddin Chowdhury placed on five-day remand in human trafficking case

A court has granted a five-day remand for interrogation of former army officer and former MP Lieutenant General (Retd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury in a human trafficking case filed at Paltan Police Station in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Aminul Islam Junayed passed the remand order on Tuesday, March 24.

Earlier, DB Police had produced Masud Uddin Chowdhury before court after showing him arrested in the human trafficking case. He was arrested from his residence in the capital's Baridhara DOHS area on Monday night.

DB Additional Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam disclosed this information at a press conference at the DMP Media Centre around 2:00 pm on Tuesday.

He said Masud Uddin Chowdhury was arrested from the capital's Baridhara area on Monday night. He was initially shown arrested in a case filed at Paltan Police Station and sent to court. The case was filed on charges of human trafficking.

According to DB, a total of 11 cases are pending against Masud Uddin Chowdhury – six in Feni district and five in Dhaka metropolitan area. Among these, trial proceedings in three cases in Feni are ongoing. As he had been absconding for a long time in these cases, the court had issued arrest warrants against him.

DB information shows that cases have been filed against him at Paltan, Banani, Kotwali, Mirpur and Hatirjhil police stations in the capital on various serious charges including murder, attempted murder and human trafficking.

Additionally, multiple allegations against him are under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police.
