Measles vaccine coverage lapse to be investigated: Information Adviser
Prime Minister's Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman has said the issue of why some children were not given measles vaccines will be investigated. He stated that while the government had no malicious intent in this matter, an investigation will be conducted to determine where the shortcomings occurred.
The adviser was speaking at a press briefing organised at the Directorate of Information at the Secretariat on Tuesday, May 5.
The interim government never wants any incident like child deaths to occur, the adviser said. However, it is essential to find out why vaccines were not administered in some cases. Discussions have already been held with the relevant ministry on this matter, and an investigation process will begin soon.
He further said that significant progress has been made in the government's ongoing vaccination campaign. So far, approximately 1.61 crore children aged six months to under five years have received measles vaccines, which is 89 per cent of the total target.
The government hopes to bring 100 per cent of children under vaccine coverage within the next few days.
