Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman Partho has said the media operated under severe restrictions for the past 17 years during the rule of the now-banned Awami League.

Speaking at the Secretariat on Sunday morning (August 23), Partha described the media as a key pillar of democracy and stressed its role in ensuring accountability.

"The media is a pillar of democracy. Its hands were tied for the past 17 years. There is no scope to deny the media's role in upholding democracy," he said.

The minister said the government's activities must be communicated to the public in a credible and transparent manner. He also called for keeping the country's history, heritage and the spirit of the Liberation War in mind while carrying out official responsibilities.

"We must ensure that no injustice is committed by us. We have to work as a team. The people have voted for us," Partho said.
