Meeting with Tarique Rahman: Jamaat Ameer hints at national unity
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has hinted at a new political equation for the post-election state formation and national unity.
After meeting with BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, he gave a message of greater unity in building the country for the next five years.
Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman met with Tarique Rahman in a special meeting at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan in the capital on Thursday (January 1) afternoon. He spoke about this while talking to reporters after the meeting.
Regarding future politics and government formation, the Jamaat Ameer said that he had discussions with Tarique Rahman on whether everyone can work together after the national elections and before the formation of the government to bring back a beautiful and democratic environment in the country. He said that both sides have agreed to meet again before taking oath after the elections.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman further said, just as there have been joint protests on the streets in the past, it is possible to work together in the interest of the nation in the future as well. Discussions were held on how much unity can be built to do something good for the country and the people in the next five years.
Highlighting Jamaat's position on the elections, he said, "This is our expectation that the upcoming national elections should be smooth, fair and transparent. We are determined to establish an effective democratic environment."
