Meghmallar Basu on life support
Meghmallar Basu, former president of Bangladesh Students' Union and central council member of National People's Action (NPA), is on life support at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He was moved to the hospital's medicine department intensive care unit (ICU) after his physical condition deteriorated on Tuesday (September 8) afternoon.
Dr Hasan Al Banna, medical officer of the ICU, said around 7:30pm on Wednesday (September 9) that Meghmallar Basu has been kept on life support and that treatment is being continued.
Hospital sources said Meghmallar Basu was rescued in an unwell condition from the gate area of Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital around 12:30am on Monday night. He was later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by people known to him, where doctors cleared his stomach on suspicion of poisoning.
Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman, director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said doctors felt it was necessary to move him to the ICU, adding that his physical condition had been deteriorating since Tuesday afternoon, which is why doctors put him in the ICU.
It is learnt that Meghmallar Basu was first admitted for treatment in bed number 3 of room 602 of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and was later transferred to the ICU after his condition worsened.
