Meghmallar Basu regains consciousness, taken off supplemental oxygen
Meghmallar Basu, former president of Dhaka University Chhatra Union and a central council member of the Network for People’s Action (NPA), has regained consciousness and is now breathing without supplemental oxygen, an NPA official said Friday night (September 11).
Sajib Tanvir, member-secretary of the NPA central council and coordinator for Basu’s treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Basu regained consciousness after noon on Friday and has not required oxygen support since.
Tanvir said he and several NPA colleagues spoke with Basu at the hospital on Friday evening. His condition has continued to improve, and doctors may move him from the ICU to a general cabin on Saturday if the progress continues.
Tanvir also expressed hope that Basu could return home soon if his recovery remains steady.
Basu was found unconscious near the Ramna Gate area of Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka late Monday night. His friends took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he has been receiving treatment.
