Meghmallar Bosu, general secretary candidate from the Left Alliance-backed Protirodh Parishad in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, has alleged that bias is being shown in favour of major parties.

However, expressing satisfaction over the participation of students, he said, “This is very positive. If this trend continues, if voter turnout remains steady, then it is going to be an excellent election.”

He further added, “We are witnessing an overwhelming spontaneous participation. This is exactly what we wanted. If it continues, we will see a good outcome.”

Immediately after, he raised allegations of bias. He said, “So far, various minor complaints are surfacing. We had already accepted that there would be some bias in favour of major parties when we entered the field. Such complaints are indeed being reported.”

Explaining why he still termed the polls peaceful despite alleging bias, he noted, “There are structural obstacles, but if voters turn out in large numbers, no manipulation or engineering will be possible. If 40,000 students come out to vote, how many can you manipulate with leaflets?”
