Meghmallar Bosu, candidate for the General Secretary (GS) position of the Protirodh Parishad, cast his vote in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Hall Union elections while using a wheelchair. Despite being recently hospitalised due to illness and undergoing surgery, he did not let that prevent him from participating in the election.

On Tuesday (September 9) at around 11 a.m., he arrived at the polling centre with the assistance of an aide and exercised his voting rights.

After voting, Meghmallar told journalists, “I hope students will cast their votes in favour of progress.”

Voting for the DUCSU election began at 8am across eight university centres and 810 booths and will continue uninterrupted until 4 pm. Long lines of voters have been observed, with many arriving early to avoid the crowd.

This year, the total number of voters is 39,874, including 18,959 female voters from five halls and 20,915 male voters from 13 halls. A total of 471 candidates are contesting 28 DUCSU positions, while 1,035 candidates are contesting 234 positions in 18 Hall Unions. Each voter has a total of 41 votes to cast.

It is worth noting that Meghmallar Bosu was hospitalised on September 1 during the election campaign due to illness. After undergoing surgery, he returned from the hospital on September 7 and immediately resumed his election activities. On the same day, he also attended a press conference at Madhur Canteen while in his wheelchair.
